Fresh Produce Bagging - New
and Main Crop Potatoes
Sandiacre Packaging Machinery recently extended its capability in packing fresh produce by developing its reciprocating jaw, continuous motion TG350-RC vertical form/fill/seal machine to pack a wide range of potato types and sizes into a broad range of pack sizes. Of particular relevance is its ability to pack 5Kg of main crop potatoes at 50bags/minute without increasing damage to the product.

Fresh Produce Bagging -
Spinach, Salad and Mixed Vegetables
A Dutch start-up company selected six high specification,
full stainless steel TG250-LD vertical form/fill/seal machines
to equip their new, fresh produce packaging enterprise. The
machines, which are used to pack spinach, mixed vegetables
and salad, are provided with a myriad of ancillary equipment,
including gas flushing and bag pricking devices, all selected
to suit the product being packed.
All machines are equipped servo-drive systems for the cross seal jaws and film transport, with the addition of vacuum assistance for film transport due to wet operating conditions. Integration with multi-head weighing systems is standard as is full safeguarding against water ingress, essential in this hose wash-down environment.

Confectionery Bagging - Menthol
Sweets
A century-old confectionery manufacturer recently installed
a bagger/weigher combination to pack a variety of menthol sweets.
This system, comprising Sandiacre's TG250-RC vertical form/fill/seal
machine and Multipond's multi-head weigher easily handles the
output required and is extremely simple to set up and operate.
The company's commercial director initially assumed that the
advanced features of the TG250-RC would make it complicated
to operate but, actually, the opposite proved to be true. The
Allen-Bradley control system and HMI (Human Machine Interface)
makes setting up, changing and running the machine extremely
simple, and the operators grew to like the machine, finding
it very easy to use."
The state-of-the-art reciprocating jaw, continuous motion TG250-RC machine boasts features such as quick changeover, product in jaw detection and automatic self-centring film transport. Its radical design has led to a reduction in parts, thereby simplifying maintenance and reducing cost of ownership. Continuous motion and constant film speed provide better back and cross seals, consistent bag length and reduced strain on the film, leading to better pack presentation and integrity. Typically 100g quantities in are packed in small (175 x 125mm) OPP laminate film pillow packs.
Together, the TG250-RC and multi-head weigher form an extremely advanced bagging line, which actually has the proven capability of running at twice the required speed on equivalent product types and weights. This installation represents a real step forward in packaging technology and provides the company with a system that will last for many years to come.

Granular and Powdered Products
- Fresh Roasted Beans and Ground Coffee
A private-label coffee roasting company purchased our coffee
packaging system to replace an existing packaging line. The
system increased throughput threefold on the company's 1Kg roasted
beans pack and outstripped existing end of line packaging capabilities
on smaller pack weights. Metallised laminate to aluminium foils,
in unprinted, continuous print and print registered formats
are used to pack the company's produce.
Based on our standard TG250-LD servo driven vertical form/fill/seal bag maker and precision valve applicator, fed by a Webb auger, the system, which also incorporates a Herma labeller and a Willett coder, has enabled the customer to tender and gain business in additional markets. Our valve applicator applies a uni-directional vent valve to the inner layer of the pack material, allowing carbon dioxide, a by-product of packaging freshly roasted coffee, to escape after the packaging operation has been completed.
The machine packs 1Kg and 227gram weights of roasted beans and
ground coffees in vented block bottom/gable top packs and 40gram,
and 100gram weights of ground coffee in non-vented pillow packs.
Our Quad Pack pack system is utilised to produce elegant block
bottom/gable topped packs with vertical fin seals on all four
corners, with the pack backseal joint incorporated into one
of the fin seals, leaving all four sides of the pack clear for
advertising and product information. |
